Jimso Slim Returns with a Blast of Psych-Pop Goodness on "Fine Connection"
Just a couple months after releasing his latest collection of singles, Now + Then, the rising Rochester-based singer-songwriter Shane Joyce, aka Jimso Slim, returns with his guitar-hazy brand of psych-pop on his first new single of the year, "Fine Connection," an earworm voyage of jagged riffs and contorted rhythms.

Just a couple months after releasing his latest collection of singles, Now + Then, the rising Rochester-based singer-songwriter Shane Joyce, aka Jimso Slim, returns with his guitar-hazy brand of psych-pop on his first new single of the year, "Fine Connection."
Opening with a syrupy jangle and propelling rhythm, "Fine Connection" is a tightly-wound and woozy earworm that circles around a swaying pop melody that feels refreshingly modern and nostalgic at the same time.
Reflecting on the new single, Joyce wrote in an exchange through email: "I felt that the song was unique, particularly in the repetitive use of the song title throughout the song. Some people might find it annoying or lacking in creativity, but it sort of plays on the idea that these 'fine connections' happen to people or places on a daily basis or more often than one would think, which to me sounds cheesy, but that's just how it unraveled. My music is typically a concoction of improvised lyrics and revisions based on certain lyrics that I view as more important, so then it feels like the song creates itself to some degree."
When Joyce isn't working his day job, he keeps busy in his home studio constantly expanding and incorporating influences such as Dr. Dog and Ryan Pollie into his music. Joyce says he tries to keep his music as simple as possible mostly due to his musical limitations. However, through this home recording method, Joyce is at his best, evoking his offbeat DIY charm as a bedroom artist. Similar to his previous projects, Joyce says each new single will eventually build up to an album; last year, he released eleven singles.
"I'll be rolling out a bunch of songs this year that are part of an album, but the frequency of the releases won't be as often as the past year or two, and that is because I would like to spend more time on the artwork and videos associated with each song. This release does reflect the style of music I will be putting out for the remainder of the year with some variation, but other than that, I'm also attempting to set up some more gigs and record new songs in between all that."
